Eligibility

Those who fall under one of the following items based on the provision of the provisory clause of Article 102, Paragraph (1) of the School Education Act:

  1. Those who have received or are expected to receive a Master's degree by September, 2016.
  2. Those who have received or are expected to receive a professional degree by September, 2016.
  3. Those who are deemed to have abilities that are at least equivalent to a person who holds a Master's degree or a professional degree based on the provision of Article 156 of the Ordinance for Enforcement of the School Education Act and fall under one of the following items:
    1. Those who have received or are expected to receive by September, 2016 a degree equivalent to a Master's degree or a professional degree in a foreign country.
    2. Those who have completed or are expected to complete school education through correspondence courses provided in Japan by a school of a foreign country and have been granted, or are expected to be granted by September, 2016 a degree equivalent to a Master's degree or a professional degree.
    3. Those who have completed a program in an educational institution in Japan designated separately by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology that provides graduate courses from a university in a foreign country within the school education system of said foreign country, and have been granted, or are expected to be granted a degree equivalent to a Master's degree or a professional degree by September, 2016.
    4. Those who have completed a course and have been granted a degree equivalent to a Master's degree at the United Nations University as prescribed in Article 1, Paragraph (2) of the Act on Special Measures incidental to Enforcement of the Agreement between the United Nations and Japan regarding the Headquarters of the United Nations University (Act No. 72, 1976), which was established under the resolution of the General Assembly of the United Nations on December 11, 1972.
    5. Those who have completed a program in a foreign school, an educational institution described in (3) above, or the United Nations University, and are approved to have academic abilities that are at least equivalent to those who hold a Master's degree as verified by the examination or screening regulated by Article 16.2 in the Standards for the Establishment of Graduate Schools.
    6. Those who have been designated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (under the 1989 Notification of the Ministry of Education, Science, Sports and Culture No. 118).
    7. Those who will be 24 years old or older (born on or before October 1, 1992) and are recognized, as a result of individual eligibility screening by our graduate school, as having abilities that are at least equivalent to those who hold a Master's degree or a professional degree.
Eligibility Screening

It is required for an applicant to go through the screening process of their eligibility before submitting an application if they fall under of Eligibility 3.(1), (2), (3), (4), (5) or (7).

Subjects of Examination

Foreign language

Select either "English", "German", "French", Russian", "Chinese" or "Spanish" (dictionaries allowed).

  • Foreign students can select "Japanese (dictionaries not allowed)" as a foreign language. However, only those who do not fall under any of the following conditions are allowed to take a Japanese examination in principle.
Condition 1.
Those who enrolled in any of a Japanese junior high school, high school and university (including graduate school) and graduated or are expected to graduate from it
Condition 2.
Those who stayed (resided) in Japan for five year or more in the last ten years
Interview

A specialized examination related to a desired field of study included in the interview.
