Why did you choose Japan as a destination to study abroad?

After I graduated from high school, I worked in an airport in Qatar for about a year. After that, I enlisted in the army, and I came to Japan to study abroad on the orders of my superiors. Four other people besides me came to Japan under the same program and currently are studying at Tokai University. After I finish the Japanese Language Course for International Students, I will enter an undergraduate school of Tokai University and study international subjects.

Tell us the good points you've chosen Tokai University.

It is heartening that many Qatari-born and Arab World-born upperclassmen are enrolled at Tokai University. When I have a problem related to living or studying, these upperclassmen give me lots of information, so I can live my life here with peace of mind. I am happy that my instructors in the Japanese language course are also very kind and give me guidance. I am also happy about the fact that it is a large university so I was able to make many Japanese friends.

Please tell us about the subject/classes you are taking now.

I am currently enrolled in the Japanese Language Course for International Students, so I am studying Japanese every day. The Japanese language is very difficult, but thanks to the enthusiastic instruction of the teachers, my Japanese has improved quite a bit compared to when I came to Japan and I am now in the intermediate class. There are various programs in the Japanese Language Course for International Students. The other day I participated in a class at a junior high school near Tokai University and was able to interact with junior high school students. It was a valuable and fun experience. There are also excursions twice a year. Last year we went to watch a kabuki play, and visited Hakone. The course is also an opportunity to interact with international students from other countries, so I think it is a rich experience.

How do you spend your weekends?

On weekends I usually go hang out with friends from Qatar living in Tokyo. We shop and eat out in the city for a change of pace. During long breaks, I sometimes travel a little farther away to places like Osaka or Kyoto or a famous amusement park in Yamanashi. Last winter I went skiing in Nagano. I saw snow a long time ago when I traveled to Switzerland, but it was my first time skiing and it was great fun.

Please write a message to foreigners who are thinking of coming to Tokai University.

Tokai University is large so it has a lot of clubs. I belong to two clubs, an international aid club and a drawing club, and have fun engaging in those activities with Japanese friends. Also, during the International Fair held every December, several Arab countries get together to put up a booth and tell many people about our Islamic culture. As you can tell, Tokai University is attractive because there are many things to do beyond studying. I recommend it to all of you. Come on over to Tokai University!
