国際人をめざす皆さん、ハワイ東海インターナショナルカレッジ（HTIC）への進学は皆さんの希望を叶えるための第一歩になることをお約束いたします。HTICは皆さんの未来に向かって大きな可能性を広げる出発点、「ゲートウェイ」になることをめざしています。私達の目標は皆さんがHTICを卒業した後に各自の人生を切り拓いていける知識、技能を養い、国際人になるための能力を培える最もよい環境を提供することです。
HTIC は、学生がフレンドリーな環境の中でいきいきと、また、常に自己啓発でき、知的レベルを向上できる環境づくりを教職員と学生が全員で力を合わせて行っています。どのクラスも他の大学とは比べものにならないほどの少人数制で、教員は学生の知識、技能を向上させる努力を惜しみません。また、学生にとって、とても重要な卒業後の進路指導は、専門の職員と教員が一緒に、できる限りのお手伝いをいたしております。
これからのグローバル社会を生きる国際人はコミュニケーション能力と批判的思考（critical
thinking）をもって物事を見極める能力が必要です。私達はこのような能力を培うために最もよいと思われるカリキュラムを学生に提供できるように、常に自分達に問いかけ、カリキュラムの向上を図っています。また、ハワイという東西・太平洋の文化が共存した土地に住むという経験は異文化の理解、ひいては国際理解に繋がり、皆さんのHTIC での経験をより一層、有意義なものにすることでしょう。
このような環境の中で国際人をめざす皆さんの入学を心から歓迎いたします。
For all of you wanting to become global citizens, I promise you that studying at Hawaii Tokai International College (HTIC) will be an excellent first step towards achieving your goal. HTIC is the taking-off point for developing your potential, and the College strives to be the “gateway” of your future. Our goals are to empower you with knowledge and skills that help you to enrich your lives after graduating from HTIC and to provide you with the best environment to develop the abilities you need to become global citizens.
At HTIC, the student, faculty, and staff cooperate in creating a friendly environment where students are always able to enlighten themselves and raise their intellectual levels. Every class offered has a small student-instructor ratio in comparison to other colleges, and all faculty members exert themselves to improve their students’ knowledge and skills. Furthermore, our professional staff and faculty will guide students in making important decisions regarding their futures after graduation.
In order to live in this international society, it is important, as global citizens, to have the ability to decipher the issues surrounding us using enhanced communication abilities and critical thinking. We, at all times, ask ourselves how and in what way we may improve the curriculum to help students develop these necessary abilities. Moreover, the experience that you have living here in Hawaii where East, West and Pacific cultures meet, will enable you to understand different cultures and will eventually lead to international understanding. This will make your experience at HTIC even more meaningful and unique.

私達はハワイ東海インターナショナルカレッジ（HTIC）が色々な意味で、皆さんの「ゲートウェイ」（入り口）としての役割を果たせることを誇りに思っています。私達の短大は高等学校から大学への教育の場としての「ゲートウェイ」であり、人生で最も重要であろうと思われる時期の学生から次の段階へ進む将来への「ゲートウェイ」でもあり、また、これまでに接しなかった文化を体験するアジアと西洋の文化の「ゲートウェイ」でもあります。HTIC に入学し、学生としてラーニングコミュニティーのメンバーになり、様々な意見、考え方、理解の仕方、また、世界の人々の見解を知ることにより、国際人になれます。
私達は「アクティブ・ラーニング」と呼ばれる学生と教員がコミュニケーションを十分にとれ、話し合いができるクラスの環境づくりに努力しています。そのためにクラスを少人数制にし、１クラスの平均学生数は8人から12人です。キャンパス内には快適な教室、30台以上のコンピュータを備えたラーニングセンター、寮、講堂、エクササイズルーム、音楽室などがあり、全館ワイヤレス・ランが使用可能です。HTICは24時間セキュリティーガードが警備しております。また、エレベーターで寮から教室へ行けるというユニークな環境はハワイ州のなかでも最も安全な学習環境と言えるでしょう。
皆さんがHTIC を自分の「ゲートウェイ」として、将来の成功に役立てていただければと思います。私達が皆さんの未来への入り口の鍵を開けるお手伝いをいたします。
We at Hawaii Tokai International College (HTIC) are proud of our institution’s role as a multifaceted “gateway.” Our College functions as an “educational gateway” through which students leave high school to embark on college studies, a “gateway to the future” for students entering their next, and possibly most critical phase of life, and finally, a “cultural gateway” between East and West through which students acquire a new cultural self-awareness. Students stepping into HTIC become members of an international student body that studies and lives together as a single “learning community.” These same students emerge as global citizens, fully acculturated to a wide range of new ideas, philosophies, methodologies, and worldviews.
HTIC promotes the ideal of “active learning” where classroom communication and discussions between students and faculty are encouraged. Small class size makes this possible. Class enrollment generally averages between 8-12 students. Campus facilities include comfortable classrooms, offices, a Learning Center with more than 30 computer stations available for student use, dormitories, an auditorium, an exercise room, music room, dining facilities, and wireless internet access. HTIC provides 24-hour security for the entire College. The College offers the unique convenience of taking an elevator to class and functions as one of the safest learning environments in the State of Hawaii.
