Currently attending California
State University, Long Beach
Majoring in Mechanical
Engineering
I enrolled in HTIC because I became interested in the U.S.during high school and wanted to attend an American university. I was worried about keeping up with my studies because English was not my best subject, but the learning environment at HTIC was excellent. HTIC is a small school, but its size offers many advantages.Classes are split up according to each student's English level, and all the teachers kindly and patiently adjust their teaching to each student. As a non-native speaker of English on my own in America, it was difficult to adjust at first. So, it was comforting that all the students were friendly and knew each others' names and faces. My new friends and the HTIC staff gave me support whenever I needed it. I think that this "family" atmosphere is the best part of HTIC.
Unlike most HTIC students, I was interested in science and planned to enter a mechanical ngineering program after graduating. I needed specialized science courses
that HTIC did not offer at the time. However, HTIC has
ties to the University of Hawaii's community colleges and
with the guidance of HTIC Student Services, I was able
to take science and lab classes during summer terms at
other local community colleges.
Currently, I am attending California State University, Long Beach and majoring in Mechanical Engineering. Here I have made many friends, met great professors, and had the opportunity to participate in wonderful projects. None of this would have happened without my time at HTIC. I believe that HTIC is the best choice for people who are not native speakers of English to begin their studies in America. Attending HTIC is a good start towards the infinite possibilities that lie ahead in your future.

Alumna (Spring 2004)
Attended California State
University, Chico
Majored in Child Development
Currently working in Japan
HTIC is the place that led me to find my purpose in life. During my second semester at HTIC, I had an opportunity to volunteer in a community as a part of class work and I volunteered at an after-school program in an elementary school. I played basketball with the children there and helped them with their homework. Through those experiences, I realized that I really had fun interacting with children.
This was the real me. So, to reach my new dream, which was working with children, I transferred to California State University, Chico after I graduated from HTIC and majored in Child Development. And now, I am working as a program assistant teacher at the Child Development Center (Hoiku-en) in Yokosuka Navy Base.
I feel that I am a lucky person because I live by doing what I wanted to do and live with being who I really am. I am sure that I wouldn't be like this without having been at HTIC. HTIC is where I found a key to open the door for my wonderful future and a place that leads everyone to find a purpose and key for their brilliant future.

Majoring in International Studies
HTIC is a stepping stone. I entered HTIC after I finished high school, hoping to improve my Japanese language skills, to continue Judo training, and also with the intention to proceed to Japan to continue my studies after graduation. Due to the international student body at the college, every day was full of opportunities to practice speaking and listening skills. Small class sizesalso provided an ideal environment for personally tailored lessons and fulfilling interaction with instructors.
The clean and modern facilities combined with a friendly and helpful staff made my time at HTIC a great experience. After graduating from HTIC I transferred to Tokai University Shonan Campus in Kanagawa, Japan. I am currently studying in the Department of International Studies. I believe that my time at HTIC helped me to improve my Japanese language skills, and meet many interesting people. I also gained confidence in my communication skills so that I was able to enter a university in Japan without apprehension. I recommend HTIC to anyone who is looking to take the first step
towards an international education.

The time that I have spent learning and living in Hawaii Tokai international College have been one of my happiest times of my life. Compared to the Chinese teaching style, the classes in HTIC are very innovative and interesting. All teachers try their best to keep everyone active. I had never felt that learning could make me happy before I came here. Although I miss my family, I don't feel lonely because HTIC is like a big family. All the teachers are very kind and my classmates are just like my brothers and sisters. My aim is to enter one of the top 10 universities in America, and this is really hard to achieve. However, I believe I will have enough ability and confidence to realize my goal when I graduate from HTIC.

Hawaii Tokai International College is an excellent institute. When I first arrived here, I felt virtually no homesickness because I was immediately embraced by the HTIC family. The faculty and staff are very considerate and understanding of the students. Because of the diversity of the school body, there are plenty of chances to both teach and learn different languages with other students. Also, the classes are fun and engaging, and the teachers challenge students to think outside of their own boxes. There are also different clubs and activities students can participate in, as well as ample opportunities to volunteer in the Hawaiian community. HTIC is a great place to be, both inside and outside of the school.

In order to have a successful college life at Hawaii Tokai International College, it is important to participate in many of the programs that HTIC offers. HTIC always helps students to improve their English skills in unique ways, such as providing opportunities to share rooms with people from other countries, volunteer activities with local people, and a homestay program. Hawaii and HTIC itself are small, but you can reachout and experience a lot if you try. With support from HTIC and my own efforts, I actually succeeded not only in improving my English skills, but also in building great human relationships. All HTIC community members always warmly welcome new people who want to learn English or find their future goals. |
