Lecture by Peruvian Ambassador to Japan Held

On Tuesday afternoon, January 24, a lecture was held by Peruvian Ambassador to Japan, His Excellency Mr. Juan Carlos Capunay at our Shonan Campus. This lecture was organized by the Head Office of International Affairs, Tokai University (HIAT). Before the lecture began, Deputy Executive Director of HIAT and Professor of School of Humanities and Culture Yusuke Dan gave a welcome address and introduced the Ambassador to the audience.

Through an interpreter, Ambassador Capunay then gave a lecture on the subject, gThe Attraction of Peru and the Relationship with Japan through the Eyes of the Peruvian Ambassador to Japan.h There were over one hundred students, faculty and staff in attendance and the lecture lasted for about an hour.

The Ambassador first indicated on a map of South America the location of Peru, explained about its natural environment and gave a brief description of the country. He went on to talk about the Peruvian culture, a subject that many in the audience were very interested in, while showing beautiful pictures of the Incan ruins. At the end of his lecture, he explained Perufs current economic situation and the countryfs relationship with Japan.

After a question and answer session with the participants, the event ended with Dean of Tourism Prof. Ryozo Matsumoto expressing his appreciation in Spanish and presenting Ambassador Capunay with a memento and a bouquet of flowers. It was unfortunately snowy on the day of the lecture; however, the room was filled with the participantsf enthusiasm and even after the hour and a half lecture, students asked questions and shared their appreciation with the Ambassador directly. The lecture ended on a pleasant note with friendly conversation exchanged between the participants.
