TOUCHES ON THE ESSENCE OF MANUFACTURING, AND WIDENS YOUR PERSPECTIVE
The School of Art and Technology offers an appealing artistic approach as well as the advantages of engineering as supported by functionality and performance. The field of art and technology consists of the practice of making things that incorporate both of these two qualities. Tokai University was the first private university to establish a school of art and technology. Creativity and the ability to imagine how the things you create will be used are essential qualities for making things. In addition to providing students with the technology and knowledge needed for making things, while fostering the humanity necessary for a job that involves teamwork, the School takes pride in its consistent policy of nurturing "creativity and the ability to imagine things" by widening students' perspectives and opening their minds to the world. The School aims to train future creators, and endowing them with extra qualities by encouraging both students and teachers to respect each other as creators, by offering a variety of workshop practicum, and by conducting experiential classes in a northern city,Asahikawa.
Department of Art and Design
The integration of "design" and "function," and "making a design" that meets our modern lifestyles is the theme of the Department of Art and Design. This Department provides three courses, namely, the "Industrial Design Course," "Art Course," and "Furniture Course." In this Department, the students acquire the knowledge of implementing "making a user-friendly design" and advanced specialized technologies.
Department of Architecture and Environment Design
Asahikawa Campus is located in one of the heaviest snow/cold latitudes in Japan. While the students experience a hot summer, cold winter, and changing of the four seasons first-hand, they will learn the wisdom behind architectures and towns that were planned and designed for living in the northern country. In this Department, the students systematically learn an environmental plan for creating energy-efficient comfort, a structural plan for withstanding the weight of snow and earthquakes, and an architectural design that looks appealing in a snow landscape. Architectural wisdom such as the above is globally acknowledged as the basics of environmental harmony.
The students of the Department of Architecture and Environment Design learn the general education subjects and go on to one of the two separate courses, "architecture " and "urban planning."
