When I was in high school, I read Professor Hayashi’s book, and I was so impressed with the Le Mans Project in his lab that I decided to attend Tokai University. However, Professor Hayashi’s lab is so popular, it’s hard to get in. That’s why I tried desperately from my first year to gain access to his lab. I was fortunate enough to be accepted in October of my third year, and I was assigned to the Management Team where I was involved with supervising the progress of the project. Every school year, there is a new manager - our approach to the job is to have a broad and deep understanding, not a broad and shallow understanding. In fact, it has become the manager’s motto. We are responsible for learning about every aspect of the project and making arrangements for all parts of the job to move forward without delay. Currently, I’m the project leader, so I have a view of the entire operation - it is truly a fun job. I’m in charge of coordinating over 40 other team members, so I feel a lot of pressure, but we are all working towards the same goal. We all face challenges on the spot to quickly find the most appropriate solutions.
Right now, every team member is arriving early and working well into the night to complete the car in time. Sometimes we even work into the next day! Since we spend so much time together, I can go and buy drinks for everybody without even asking people what they want. But we’re having so much fun and it’s such an interesting project, that it doesn’t feel like work at all.
It’s not only our own dreams we’re working for, but the dreams of those who graduated before us and who taught us so much about technology, the dreams of students of other disciplines, the dreams of faculty and family members who have supported us and the dreams of 4th year students who will be graduating soon. When our car competes in Le Mans, we are carrying the dreams of many people. We fully plan on completing the full 24 hours. Please keep your eye on the Tokai University car and cheer for us in Le Mans. Thank you. |
