Spermatogenesis is so much complex systems to determine the cell fates, such as proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis. During the determination process, there might be fantastic collaboration systems organized by both intrinsic factors and extrinsic factors to affect the cell fates. In our laboratory, we have been recently focused on spermatogenesis systems affected by the thermal changes using the several specific mammals which possess the testes in the abdomens not in the scrotums because we postulate that there are special systems to complete the normal spermatogenesis under the heat stress in these animals.ResearchAreasBiologyKeyword■Reproductive biology■Developmental biology■SpermatogenesisRelatedresearchSDGStudy of spermatogenesis in mammalsProfessorYoko SatoUndergraduate School of Biological SciencesDepartment of BiologyEcosystem services are the benets obtained from the environment that increase human well-being. Recently, bats have been identied as playing an important role in ecosystem services including in insect (pest) suppression, seed dispersal, and pollination. However, unfortunately, bats face many threats today. Towards the conservation of bats, I have been focusing on the phylogenetic history of insectivorous bats and their distribution patterns in East Asia. To achieve my research objectives, I have been using various techniques including molecular phylogeny, population genetics, morphological analysis, and recording and analyzing their sounds.ResearchAreasBiological sciencesKeyword■Chiroptera■Conservation■Zoogeography■Acoustic monitoringRelatedresearchSDGZoogeography of Bats and Using Acoustic Monitoring to Protect BatsProfessorKuniko KawaiUndergraduate School of Biological SciencesDepartment of BiologyMy research is focused on phylogeography, taxonomy, and phylogeny about turtles, especially in the Asian freshwater turtle species. Also, I am interested in conservation of them. Recently, many wild lives including turtle species have faced the crisis of extinction which caused by several human activities in all over the world. My goal of research is to understand the natural history and current status of the turtle species and to conserve the biodiversity.ResearchAreasBiologyKeyword■Herpetology■Phylogeography■Conservation■Taxonomy■PhylogenyRelatedresearchSDGPhylogeography and conservation of turtlesJunior Associate ProfessorDai SuzukiUndergraduate School of Biological SciencesDepartment of Biology130
