Through the lens of social security law and social policy, I have been engaged in the research on the sustainability of Japan's social security system based on a comparative study with European welfare states. In particular, I focus my study on the Dutch welfare state. In terms of the typology of the welfare states, it is situated in the middle, presenting a mix of characteristics from welfare states in Northern Europe and other parts of the European continent. Additionally, the Netherlands has developed a unique welfare state based on rational and practical ideas. To create a fair society for everyone and maintain a sustainable society for the next generation, the deciency in the present capitalist market economy should be found and lled.
