The present artificial hand can be controlled by using myoelectric potential and can move even ngertips. However most of them cannot sense tactile feeling about their held objects. The objective of my study is the development of a new sensor that can sense tactile sensation and will be set on the ngertips of the articial hand. I think that the quality of life of many amputees will improve if articial hands equipped with such a mechanism are developed. In order to sense delicate tactile sensation, a new tactile sensor that consists of multi photo-sensors is being experimentally developed.ResearchAreasEngineeringKeywords■Rehabilitation engineering□Medical engineeringRelatedresearchSDGDevelopment of the articial hand which is driven by SEMGProfessorKazushige MagataniUndergraduate School of EngineeringDepartment of Optical and Imaging Science and TechnologyThe purpose of my research is to measure and evaluate the lighting environment of living spaces to create a safe and comfortable living space. My research on solar ultraviolet radiation on the earth’s surface is the oldest of any university in Japan and has been conducted since 1990. Characteristics of solar UV radiation, its long-term trends, and UV protection methods etc. have been studied, and the results of our research have been used in mass media and school educations. In recent years, I also been working on the photobiological safety evaluation and its international / domestic standards of light sources.ResearchAreasComplex systemsKeywords■Solar ultraviolet radiation■Lighting environment■Photobiological safetyRelatedresearchSDGRealization of a safe and secure indoor and outdoor lighting environmentAssociate ProfessorShu TakeshitaUndergraduate School of EngineeringDepartment of Optical and Imaging Science and TechnologyI am studying Electronic paper as a next generation paper-like medium. I am currently focusing on prototyping of Elecronic tile: one of promissing applications of electronic paper. I am also studying volumetric 3D displays. Universal view point is the great advantage of the volumetric 3D displays.ResearchAreasEngineeringKeywords■Image■Display■e-Paper■Vision■3DRelatedresearchSDGElectronic Paper & 3D DisplayProfessor (-2019)Makoto OmodaniUndergraduate School of EngineeringDepartment of Optical and Imaging Science and TechnologyA device that converts the gripping force of a manipulator into sound and feeds it back to the user.76
