With the population and economic activities shrinking especially in the countryside, cities and towns nationwide are trying to attract tourists, including international travelers, by collaborating with various actors such as administrations, private sectors, universities, NPOs, and multicultural networks of local people and outsiders — Japanese and foreigners. With diverse cultural backgrounds and various perspectives, there is cooperation in community development and contribution toward the eective use of local resources and creation of new values; this leads to tourism promotion and the civic pride of the local people.ResearchAreasSocial sciencesKeyword■International Tourism■Community■Transnational networks■Global communication■DiscriminationRelatedresearchSDGDemocracy in Multicultural Society and its ConditionsProfessorKazuhisa HondaUndergraduate School of TourismDepartment of TourismMy research interest is about the transformations of the relationship between work and leisure and its social contexts throughout the modern Japan from the sociological viewpoints. Based on this work, I have been studying on Japan’s tourism policies and their social implications in recent years. I am now investigating mega-events and tourism development, focusing on the ways how the mega-events cause the catalytic effects upon the urban regeneration of the host cities. Also, I have a keen interest in how mega-events and tourism have the potential to benet cities and regions, and how they contribute to creating a better society in the future.ResearchAreasHumanities/Social sciencesKeyword■Sociology■Tourism studies■Leisure studies■Mega-event■Creative cityRelatedresearchSDGMega-events and Tourism DevelopmentAssociate ProfessorTakato OzawaUndergraduate School of TourismDepartment of Tourism88
