My research subject is tourist destination management for sustainable society especially in the natural area such as Satoyama -rural area with secondary nature- in Japan. Current research topics are the following;1. Study on ”Forest Service Industry” with Japanese Forestry Agency2. With the population and economic activities shrinking especially in the countryside, cities and towns nationwide are trying to attract tourists, including international travelers, by collaborating with various actors such as administrations, private sectors, universities, NPOs, and multicultural networks of local people and outsiders — Japanese and foreigners. Based on this work, I have been studying on Japan’s tourism policies and their social implications in recent years. I am now investigating mega-events and tourism development, focusing on the ways how the mega-events cause the catalytic effects upon the urban regeneration of the host cities.
