A CLIL workshop was held for Tokai University and affiliated high school teachers on Wednesday, March 6th at Shonan Campus.
CLIL stands for Content and Language Integrated Learning. It is a teaching method allowing students to learn both a second language and a subject (e.g. science, history, music) concurrently by teaching in the second language.
About 40 teachers joined the workshop and shared their concerns and issues on introducing the method in their classes.
Professor Shigeru Sasajima from Toyo Eiwa University joined the workshop as a guest speaker and a commentator, and provided many useful suggestions. He concluded that the important thing is to not initially try to adopt a 100% CLIL class from the outset, rather to start from a comfortable point, and to enjoy what you do.
