On November 8, 2016, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, H.E. Mr. Nursultan Nazarbayev was conferred an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Engineering at Tokai University's Takanawa campus.
H.E. Mr. Nursultan Nazarbayev has been the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan since 1990. He has played a leading role in the founding of the BOLASHAK Scholarship, a foreign exchange scholarship system that supports the nurturing of human personnel who are committed to building a new nation. We confer this degree upon H.E. Mr. Nursultan Nazarbayev in recognition of his contributions to the modernization of the country's education and research programs through the promotion of science and engineering, and for his role in developing scholarly exchange between Kazhakstan and Japan.
Tokai University's faculty members have engaged in collaboration with their counterparts at Kazhakstan's leading institution of higher learning, Nazarbayev University, from the latter's founding moments. From 2008, Tokai has served as a receiving institution for some of its BOLASHAK Scholarship recipients, welcoming 16 students thus far. Between May and June of this year, Tokai has deepened its collaborative activities with high schools by starting a training program for Nazarbayev University students. In addition, in January, a delegation from the Nazarbayev Intellectual School, an elementary and middle school that prioritizes science and engineering, visited Tokai University Takanawadai Senior High School in order to embark upon science and engineering education that targets a wider range of students.
