東海大学とタイ・モンクット王ラカバン工科大学（KMITL）では８月31日に湘南キャンパスで、「The 10th KMITL-TOKAI Engineering Joint Seminar」を開催しました。本セミナーは、KMITL工学部と本学大学院工学研究科の研究交流の一環として2016年度から実施しているもので、KMITLと本学湘南キャンパスで交互に開き、研究発表とともにキャンパス内の施設見学などを実施しています。
当日は藤原覚太講師（建築都市学部）と安藝史祟講師（工学部）がモデレーターを務め、最初に総合科学技術研究所の岩森暁所長（工学部教授）が開会にあたり、前回のKMIITLにおける合同セミナーや過去の参加者に対する謝意を述べました。KMIITLからはソムヨット・ギャットワニットヴィライ准教授があいさつに立ち、「このような素晴らしい交流を続けることで、若い科学者やエンジニアが私たちに続いてくれることを期待しています」と話しました。
次に、岩森所長が本学の概要や沿革、KMITLとの交流の歴史などを振り返り、基調講演としてギャットワニットヴィライ准教授が「Physical Industrial AI: Bridging Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, and Real-World Manufacturing」をテーマに登壇。「言語モデルが主流になる次代のAIは、安全性と信頼性が重要な課題になります」と述べ、KMITLにおける豊富な研究事例の一端を紹介しました。続いて午前と午後に分かれてセッションを実施。両大学から５名ずつの研究者が登壇し、自らの研究テーマと成果について発表しました※。各プレゼンテーションが終わると両校の参加者から質問が上がり、活発な議論が繰り広げられました。
セミナー終了後には本キャンパス内の研究施設を見学しました。KMITL一行は、蟹江治教授（工学部生物工学科）、藤原講師、伊達重之教授（建築都市学部土木工学科）の研究室や実験施設などを回り、各施設ではそれぞれの研究室に所属する大学院生が設備の説明や日ごろの研究・実験について詳しく紹介。各所で一行と大学院生との間で積極的に意見が交わされる様子が見られました。
